1. Introduction

Welcome to Giving Back Generation ("GBG")! Volunteers are at the heart of our mission to empower communities and create a meaningful impact. This Volunteer Handbook outlines your role, responsibilities, and expectations as a GBG volunteer. Thank you for your dedication and commitment.

2. Who Can Become a Volunteer?

Anyone who shares our vision and values can become a volunteer, subject to the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers working with vulnerable individuals must meet additional safeguarding requirements.
  • You must support GBG’s mission and adhere to its policies.
  • You must complete the volunteer application process, including background checks if required.

3. Volunteer Responsibilities

As a GBG volunteer, your responsibilities include:

  • Upholding GBG’s Values: Acting in a manner that reflects our commitment to empowerment, respect, and inclusivity.
  • Commitment to Your Role: Completing assigned tasks and projects to the best of your ability.
  • Safeguarding: Protecting the welfare of individuals, particularly young and vulnerable audiences.
  • Compliance: Following GBG’s policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
  • Team Collaboration: Working collaboratively with staff, trustees, and other volunteers to achieve shared goals.

4. Duties and Expectations

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Attend orientation and training sessions as required.
  • Be punctual and reliable, informing your supervisor of any changes to your availability.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
  • Represent GBG positively in the community.
  • Provide feedback on your experience to help us improve our programmes.

5. Volunteer Roles

Volunteers may participate in a variety of roles, including but not limited to:

  • Community outreach and engagement.
  • Supporting events and fundraising initiatives.
  • Creating handmade items or goods for sale in our online store.
  • Mentoring and educational activities with young audiences.
  • Administrative support and project coordination.

6. Pathway to Becoming a Trustee

Volunteers who actively commit to GBG for at least six months may apply to become a Trustee. The process includes:

  • Application: Submit a written statement explaining your contributions to GBG and why you wish to become a Trustee.
  • Evaluation: Demonstrate your alignment with GBG’s mission, skills, and ability to contribute effectively to governance.
  • Approval: Applications are reviewed by the Board of Trustees and Members. Successful candidates are selected through an internal vote.

7. Volunteer Code of Conduct

All volunteers must adhere to GBG’s Code of Conduct, which includes:

  • Acting with integrity, respect, and professionalism.
  • Avoiding conflicts of interest and declaring them when they arise.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding the welfare of others.
  • Complying with GBG’s health, safety, and safeguarding policies.

8. Recognition and Support

GBG values its volunteers and recognises their contributions through:

  • Certificates of appreciation and awards for exceptional service.
  • Opportunities for skill development and training.
  • Reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred during volunteering (subject to prior approval).

9. Volunteer Safety and Wellbeing

Your safety and wellbeing are our priority. GBG provides:

  • A safe and supportive working environment.
  • Guidance on health and safety practices relevant to your role.
  • Access to support services if you encounter challenges during your volunteering.

10. Resignation or Dismissal

Volunteers may resign at any time by providing written notice to their supervisor. GBG reserves the right to terminate a volunteer’s involvement if they:

  • Breach the Code of Conduct.
  • Fail to fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Act against GBG’s mission or policies.
